Bet you’re thinking there is no way you can afford an Amex Gold Card, right? Guess what? It’s free. Yes, that’s right the American Express Gold Ascent Card comes with an annual fee cost of $0 p.a..
??The card is designed to get you enjoying your rewards quicker. It is calculated so that you need fewer credit card points than most to redeem a flight. Get 1 Ascent reward point for every $2 you spend. But here’s where it gets good: not only can you redeem your points on 7 major airlines, but those airlines are partnered with 57 other airlines where you can also use your points! And certain airlines give you great advantages when it comes to spending your points, such as Air New Zealand who give you 100 membership rewards points for every 1 Ascent point you redeem (versus just one with Singapore Airlines or Virgin Altantic/Virgin Australia).
With no annual fee, there’s not a lot to carp about this card. The purchase rate of 20.74% p.a. and up to 44 days interest free are both pretty standard. You do have to earn over $40,000 to be eligible.
This is a pretty sweet deal really – it doesn’t cost you anything and you could rather quickly amass a good stock of Ascent miles to use on travel or other merchandise. If you take advantage of the free additional card holder, you could get miles twice as quickly.
