This card offers you choice. How you redeem your reward points depends on you and your lifestyle preferences. To shop, or to travel, that is the question.
You choose whether you want to redeem your reward points as part of the Amplify Rewards or the Amplify Qantas program. Amplify Rewards (1 point for every $1 spent) can be redeemed against selected air miles, vouchers, electronics, wine, home wares, etc. While the Amplify Qantas points (1 point per $2 spent) can be enjoyed on travel with Qantas, plus V Australia’s Velocity, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, Virgin Blue and the Malaysia Airlines Enrich program.
There is a $79 p.a. charge per year to hold the card and while you enjoy 55 days interest free from purchases, if you don’t pay it off each month you will be charged 18.74% p.a. interest, which can add up quickly. There is 0.99% p.a., which is decent, but be sure you can pay it off by the end of your six month period.
While the idea of amassing Qantas (and partners) points is appealing, at $2 spend per point you are going to have to spend a lot to really benefit from free travel. Factor in the annual fee and this could become an expensive card to use. On the flip side, if you slap it down often and pay it off every month, you could quickly be on your way somewhere nice courtesy of your reward points.
